Board Director

cohealth is one of Australia’s largest not-for-profit community health organisations, improving health and wellbeing for all and tackling inequality in partnership with the communities it serves. With revenue of around $120 million and more than 1,000 staff across 30+ sites, cohealth delivers integrated medical, dental, allied health, mental health, counselling and social support — prioritising people who face the greatest barriers to good health.

THE OPPORTUNITY

cohealth has responded openly to an independent review into its proposed closure of three general practice clinics, accepting and acting on its recommendations. As it strengthens the Board for the next phase of its 2025–2035 strategy, we are seeking to appoint new Board Directors. Considered together to strengthen the Board as a whole, these appointments will bring:

  • Consumer and lived experience — authentic credibility with the communities cohealth serves, ideally First Nations and/or lived experience as a consumer of services.
  • Clinical and primary-care governance — a registered medical practitioner with a firm grasp of quality, safety and the primary-care environment.
  • Government and stakeholder relations — a well-connected leader with credibility across health and primary care at local, state and Commonwealth levels.
  • Strategic financial management — senior financial leadership, ideally a qualified accountant, to strengthen financial oversight and support the Finance and Audit Committee.

Across all of these roles, we are looking for integrity, independence, sound judgement and alignment with cohealth’s values. All directors are also expected to bring core board skills in governance, risk management, strategy and financial oversight, together with the resilience to help lead through change.

COMMITMENT

These are remunerated non-executive roles. The Board meets monthly, with committee work and strategy sessions through the year, predominantly in person in Footscray. In the short term, as the Board progresses through responses to the Review, there may be additional requirements for Board Directors to attend meetings as they may arise.
cohealth is committed to inclusion and diversity and warmly encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, LGBTIQA+ people, people with disability, and people with lived experience of the communities it serves.
