UnitingCare Australia is an agency of the National Assembly of the Uniting Church in Australia. It is the national body for the Uniting Church’s community services across Australia. Reporting to the Director, Communications & Public Affairs, and as a key member of a tight-knit, committed team this role will contribute to the advancement of UnitingCare Australia’s strategic priorities through stakeholder engagement, advocacy, and integrated public affairs.

The Public Affairs Officer will lead and steward the development and fostering of strategic relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers, supporting UnitingCare Australia’s advocacy at a national level. This position will be key to maintaining effective relations with government, Ministerial and parliamentary stakeholders, working to both identify opportunities to influence policy as well ensure the voice of UnitingCare Australia is represented.

To be successful in this role, you will have a thorough understanding of the machinery of government, political acuity and bring extensive knowledge in public policy and/or community services. You will have tertiary qualifications in journalism, communications, public policy, political science or a related discipline; and ideally experience gained in a political environment (department, parliamentary or electorate office) or consulting firm in a relevant field. You will have the ability to work under pressure, to take personal responsibility for prioritising and be able to manage a workload under limited supervision. You will be expert at engaging with a range of influential stakeholders and be a compelling communicator. You will have a preparedness to work within the polity and ethos of the Uniting Church in Australia and a strong commitment to social justice.
