Manager, Suicide Prevention and Intervention

Fixed term position until August 2020

Through partnerships with State and Commonwealth Governments, the NWPHN is leading three trials based around Suicide Prevention Initiatives. Reporting to the Director, Mental Health and Wellbeing, the Manager Suicide Prevention and Intervention will lead a small team of place-based officers to develop and implement evidence-based strategies to reduce suicide and improve integration of existing services.

Working with key partners, stakeholders and local communities, this position will have responsibility in several key areas:

  • Creating a vision and setting direction to ensure that activities are consistent across all trials and that opportunities to leverage benefits across trial sites are harnessed and leveraged accordingly.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams across the organisation and using insights developed from the trial site activity support the planning of regional suicide prevention activities and commissioned services.
  • Develop and implement strategies to successfully deliver the suicide prevention trial program and activity including arrangements for monitoring and stakeholder communications.

This position will shape and manage day to day activities that will focus on building strong sectoral and community relationships, build workforce awareness and capability, and ensure that data is managed and utilised effectively so that any trial benefits can be integrated successfully to improve existing programs.

To be successful in this challenging position you will be a self-starter, able to manage a range of activities a competing priorities. You’ll be an authentic and practical leader, ideally with some experience in a relevant health and/or community development role. With tertiary qualifications in a relevant health discipline or a related field, you’ll be collaborative and consultative yet decisive, and value transparency and accountability. Naturally, you will be a skilled communicator, adept at managing change and negotiating outcomes and building effective relationships. Strong Project Management skills and an ability to identify opportunities to influence and impact others, build alliances and partnerships to improve effectiveness and efficiency will be highly regarded. Whilst the position is for a fixed-term, the NWPHN have a strong commitment toward the retention of highly-skilled professionals.
