Director, Financial Services

The Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board (MFB) is a statutory authority within the Department of Justice, accountable to the Minister for Emergency Services and is one of three fire services within the State of Victoria.  MFB provides a broad range of services to four million Melbourne residents, workers and visitors, as well as safeguarding assets and key infrastructure worth billions of dollars.  The organisation employs more than 2,300 people comprising approximately 1,970 operational fire-fighters and 350 corporate and technical staff. A vacancy now exists for a contemporary finance leader to make their mark in one of Victoria’s iconic organisations.

The Director, Financial Services will be a key member of the Corporate Services senior leadership team reporting to the Executive Director. The appointee will lead a committed team of professionals to deliver finance transformation that will support and enable the MFB to achieve its strategic objectives. As a trusted advisor and business partner, the appointee will provide direction, insight and analysis for business sustainability, including leadership of a number of significant upcoming projects:

  • a new finance strategy,
  • an ERP upgrade,
  • improved focus on customer service,
  • integration of the financial planning process into strategic and business planning,
  • supporting fire service sector reform.

The role will provide oversight and direction for all finance activities across the organisation.

Possessing a relevant tertiary degree and a current membership of ICA/CPA, ideally you will be experienced leading a similar function in a large, complex, government environment. Your style will be engaging, agile and you will relish working in a complex and changing environment. This role calls for strong judgement, negotiation and business acumen, combined with a strong focus and track record of providing outstanding customer service. As a leader you will have experience leading a large team, and an ability to identify opportunities to develop, motivate and inspire the team to continually improve. . Your approach to leadership will be authentic and self-aware; comfortable providing broad direction and strong operational management as required.
